Members of the Experimental Pathology Service conduct research on diverse aspects of cancer. Although a major focus is the biology of sarcomas, we are also addressing mechanisms that underlie the emergence of cancer stem cells, with extensive emphasis on epigenetic regulation of tumor cell plasticity, secretory pathways that stimulate malignant cell invasion and stromal cell modulation of cancer progression. Whereas many of the projects address fundamental biological questions, substantial effort is invested in developing translational research and the diversity of the subjects studied ensures continued application and adaptation of novel technologies where lab members can benefit from each others’ expertise. We place strong emphasis on training medical, graduate and MD-PhD students and on creating a nurturing and interactive environment where intellectual challenge and creativity help make science fun.
